It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a glimpse into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
