The Reason this Democratic Party is Hiding its 2024 Election Autopsy: An Analysis.

This decision from the DNC to withhold the release of its own post-election analysis on the last presidential race is shocking but not surprising. Averse to unpleasant candor, the party's leadership apparatus operates closer to a publicity machine than a political organization focused on cultivating local power for winning elections.

A Culture of Conformity

Reluctant to depart from the prevailing attitude of conformity, the DNC has stayed within the influence of the previous administration throughout this past year. Making public such a report would have indicated that party leaders are interested to encourage public discourse regarding the errors which allowed Donald Trump to return to the White House. Instead, the leadership is moving forward as if there's nothing to glean following the electoral catastrophe of 2024.

Our guiding principle: will this lead to victory? If not, it’s a distraction from what truly matters," an explanation reportedly given to justify concealing the document.

Critical Problems a Report Might Have Examined

Any valuable post-mortem of substance would tackle head-on a series of difficult topics. Among them are:

  • Electoral Disengagement: Losing of a significant portion of the electorate who voted for the Democratic ticket during the previous election became a critical factor in the close 2024 election.
  • A Decision to Seek Re-election: The determined decision by a party leader to seek re-election, alongside a very late exit, is viewed as denying the party's base the chance for open primaries.
  • Abandoning Core Democratic Voters: While facing inflation, the electoral effort allegedly ceding to powerful financial backers without successfully attempting to challenge the impact of profit-seeking.
  • A Foreign Policy Effect: An unwillingness to reconsider a policy position on the situation in Gaza reportedly led to alienating key demographic groups, especially among young people, Arab American communities, and Muslim Americans.
  • Losing Young Voter Support: Research demonstrates a major drop-off in support for the party from voters aged 18-29.

A Record of Evasion

This refusal fits a recurring tendency of evading difficult realities. It recalls an episode in which nearly all elected Democrat in Congress supported a sitting president's decision for running for re-election right up until a disastrous campaign event led to an exit.

At the same time, a significant majority of Democratic voters had been consistently telling surveyors that they opposed the incumbent to run again.

Financial Issues

A substantive report could probe matters regarding where money went, such as what sums flowed to insider consultants and ad buyers during an electoral effort which expended a colossal war chest during the general election.

A Broader Problem

Fundamentally, the suppression of the official autopsy points to a submission to party leaders that oversaw a losing national race. The implication for rank-and-file members – including countless dedicated activists – appears to be that they do not be trusted to understand the lessons the leadership have learned based on a report drawing from feedback from all states.

A political entity incapable to critically review its mistakes finds it difficult to escape the pattern that proved so beneficial to the winning candidate.
